Lighting a Fire Under Rudy
So apparently fire fighters are going to start attacking Rudy about his 9/11 leadership - or that's how it looks anyway. The ABC news headline reads "Firefighters Burn Giulinani." As usual, this is deceptive. Check out the text:
Not firefighters: a well nigh-mandatory union. I say that because in most cases, union dues are taken directly from one's check. If you choose to direct the funds elsewhere, you have to designate a charity, so it comes out regardless. Most people wouldn't want to be left without representation should something awful happy, so they just sigh and give money to an organization they don't really support.

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: "America's Mayor" is about to come under attack.Government employee's unions rarely represent the interests of all or even most of their members. What's more, they're usually in bed with your average populist Democrat, so this ought to be no surprise. Get it right ABC.
The nation's largest firefighters union is set to launch a video on Wednesday that seeks to tarnish former mayor Rudolph Giuliani's reputation as a strong leader before and after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. [emphasis mine]

Hey, it turns out Giuliani's campaign has already replied to the IAFF, claiming the personal attack is politically motivated. No kidding, Rudy. However, here's an article you might like where a few retired firefighters give their impressions and bring up some important facts, like how the IAFF supported John Kerry in the former presidential election.

Also, the video is online, at http://www.rudy-urbanlegend.com/
I haven't watched it, as I find these kinds of personal attacks sickening and pathetic, and I think it severely discredits the presidential race, but hey, I'm obviously not a union member, either.

I actually belong to a union, and believe me, they're terrible. They spend ten times as much money campaigning for social issues that have no impact on me whatsoever than they do working to actually improve the industry. Utterly useless, corrupt, and beneath contempt.
